Control4 KNX integration preview
The preview shows a reviewed Control4 structure being created from KNX context. Devices, rooms and build information are checked before the package is sent to Composer.
What the integration has to solve
KNX and Control4 model the project differently. ETS describes topology, group addresses, DPTs and device objects. Control4 needs rooms, drivers, devices, feedback and names that make sense to the installer and the client.
The integration layer should preserve the KNX source while producing a clean Control4 structure. That is where import, AI parsing, mapping review and the Composer build report matter.
- ETS remains the source of truth for KNX context.
- The AI Assistant creates a reviewable Control4 view before export.
- Composer receives a closed package instead of loose notes or spreadsheets.
Official documentation is necessary, but not enough
Control4 publishes KNX documentation, tool downloads and user guides for KNX device categories such as switching, blinds, DALI gateways, IP routers and split-unit gateways. Those references matter for product support and driver expectations.
They do not replace the project review. A real ETS file still has naming, topology, DPT, command, feedback and room-structure decisions that must be translated into a clean Control4 model before the build.
Gateway route before device mapping
Many Control4 KNX issues are route issues before they are mapping issues. Older projects may mention KNX Network or IP interface/tunneling paths, while many current projects expect a KNX Routing Gateway, multicast visibility and correct filter-table behavior.
CoduWorks does not configure the gateway, but the review should expose the route assumptions before the .codu export so the local Composer build is not based on the wrong KNX path.
Where AI parsing helps
AI parsing is useful when the project has repeated naming patterns, inconsistent labels or many group address families that need to be grouped into devices. It helps identify likely lights, dimmers, blinds, thermostats and infrastructure while keeping exceptions visible.
The important detail is that the output is not accepted blindly. It is reviewed with KNX context before the .codu file is exported.
The Composer handoff
After review, the AI Assistant exports a .codu file for the Composer driver. The driver can then show a build plan, check duplicates and create the final structure from the reviewed project.
This makes Composer the build environment, not the place where every KNX decision has to be discovered manually.
Device count for licensing
For pricing tiers, the device count is based on lights, blinds, thermostats and KNX IP gateways. Keypads, push buttons, sensors and other project elements do not move the license tier.
That keeps large KNX projects more accessible when they contain many controls but only a smaller number of actual light, blind, thermostat or gateway devices to build in Control4.

FAQ
What is the best workflow for Control4 KNX integration?
Import the ETS project, review the KNX context, let the AI Assistant generate a Control4 structure, check mappings and export a .codu file for the Composer driver.
Is Control4 KNX integration only a driver question?
No. Drivers and official documentation are required, but the project also needs ETS context, gateway route, DPTs, feedback addresses, naming and duplicate-safe Composer build review.
Do I need KNX Routing Gateway or KNX Network?
That depends on the project topology and hardware. Treat KNX Network, IP interface, KNX Routing Gateway, multicast and filter tables as a preflight decision before device mapping.
Does one KNX group address become one Control4 device?
Usually no. A Control4 device can need several KNX group addresses for command, feedback, level or position values.
Which devices count for pricing?
Lights, blinds, thermostats and KNX IP gateways count. Keypads, push buttons, sensors and similar controls do not move the tier.
Review your KNX project before Composer
Upload the ETS project, let the AI Assistant prepare the Control4 structure and export a build-ready .codu file.
